Happy Wheels is a free ragdoll physics game in which you guide unlikely characters — a man on a segway, a father and son on a bicycle — through obstacle courses filled with spikes, mines and swinging blades. The physics are deliberately fragile, and limbs come off individually rather than the run simply ending.

The joke and the mechanic are the same thing: your character is a jointed ragdoll, so leaning, balancing and even losing a limb all have real physical consequences. You can finish a level with no arms if you can still steer, and many courses are cleared by deliberately ejecting from the vehicle at the right moment and letting the body carry through.

Levels are user-designed, which means the quality range is enormous and the design language is unpredictable — some are careful platforming challenges, others are elaborate traps. Learning to read a course before committing is the main skill, because most deaths happen in the first two seconds of a level to something that was visible from the start.

Accelerate, brake and lean to steer your character and vehicle through the course. Use the lean controls to balance over obstacles and correct your angle in mid-air. Reach the finish line without being killed by the hazards. You can eject from your vehicle deliberately, which is sometimes the intended solution.
