About Granny
Granny is a free first-person horror escape game in which you are locked inside a decaying house with a hearing-obsessed old woman who hunts you room to room. You have five in-game days to find the tools, keys and hidden panels needed to open the front door — and Granny hears every dropped object, creaking floorboard and slammed cupboard you leave behind.
The house is the puzzle. Across two floors, a basement and an attic you are looking for a specific chain of objects: a padlock key, a hammer to prise away boards, a cogwheel and a set of pliers, each hidden inside furniture, safes and crawlspaces. Nothing is randomised beyond Granny's patrol, so every failed run teaches you the layout and the next one is faster.
What makes Granny tense rather than merely difficult is the sound design. Granny is blind to you at distance but reacts instantly to noise, so sprinting, dropping an item or letting a door swing shut will bring her straight to your position. Getting caught costs you a day rather than the run, which means the game is really a five-attempt budget: you are trading noise for progress and hoping the maths works out before day five.
How to play Granny
Explore the house and pick up any item you can carry. Search wardrobes, drawers, safes and under beds for the key items, then combine them with the locks and boards on the front door. Hide inside a wardrobe or under a bed when Granny closes in, and wait for her footsteps to move away before you continue. Escaping through the main door completes the game.
Tips and strategy
- Walk instead of sprinting almost everywhere. Sprinting is the single loudest thing you can do and it summons Granny from anywhere in the house.
- Drop items deliberately rather than throwing them — a thrown object makes noise where it lands, which is a genuinely useful way to pull Granny to the far side of the map.
- Learn the bear trap and shotgun locations early. Both buy you an uninterrupted minute, which is usually enough to finish a floor.
- Getting caught only costs one of your five days, so a run that finds two new item locations before it fails is a run worth making.
